I OWN THE UNEXPECTED
Crypsybear (b. 1979, Nordenham, Germany) is a German contemporary artist working at the intersection of pop culture, mixed media and social observation.
Drawing from consumer culture, mythology, technology and art history, he transforms familiar symbols, discarded materials and everyday objects into unexpected narratives about value, identity and progress.
Rewriting Consumer Culture into Contemporary Myth.
Ancient myths collide with global brands. Cultural icons meet packaging waste. Digital symbols become objects of devotion. What was designed to be consumed and forgotten is given permanence through art.
These collisions reflect the contradictions of contemporary life: our search for individuality within mass culture, our belief in progress and the consequences it leaves behind.
The discarded materials are therefore more than an aesthetic choice. They are physical evidence of the culture being examined.
What we throw away says something about what we value. What we choose to preserve says even more. Crypsybear’s work has been presented in more than 40 exhibitions across four continents and is held in private collections internationally.
Take what we think we know — and make us look again.
