REWRITING CONSUMER CULTURE INTO CONTEMPORARY MYTH.

Crypsybear examines the objects, symbols and visual codes through which contemporary culture creates desire, identity and value.

BLOOM FROM THE LEFTOVERS

Discarded objects become artifacts of the culture that discarded them.

Consumer culture produces more than objects. It produces desires, symbols, rituals and identities — and an endless stream of physical and visual leftovers.
In Bloom from the Leftovers, Crypsybear transforms discarded plastic water canisters into sculptural vessels layered with fragments of contemporary visual culture: consumer packaging, internet symbols, status codes, childhood memories and mass-cultural imagery.
The works are not an attempt to simply make waste beautiful. They examine a contradiction at the heart of consumer culture: why do we assign extraordinary meaning to some objects while designing others to become worthless almost immediately?
By turning the disposable into something preserved, displayed and collected, Bloom reverses that hierarchy.

BEYOND BLOOM.

Bloom from the Leftovers is one chapter in a broader investigation.
Across painting, sculpture, collage and installation, Crypsybear appropriates and transforms the symbols through which contemporary culture communicates desire — brands, status objects, digital validation, childhood icons and pop-cultural imagery.
Rather than rejecting these symbols, he treats them as archaeological material from the present: fragments through which our culture's desires, values and contradictions become visible.
